Pixelmator: Full Review

Ever wanted to quickly crop or edit a photo? Perhaps you would like to blur out the person your ex or brighten up a dark landscape scene? iPhoto will not do all these things, but shelling out money for Photoshop not practical option. Fortunately now the mid--Pixelmator ($ 29 .99 in the app store Mac). This program has functions similar to Photoshop, but it's $ 669 cheaper.

When you first open the Pixelmator, welcome screen gives you the ability to create a new image, open an existing or opening the last of them. No matter what you choose Pixelmator opened windows containing tools and tool options on the left side of the screen and color swatches, brushes and layers on the right. Bar at the top has a drop-down menu for editing the image layer, filter and view controls. Within this menu you will find color correction, image conversion and resizing options. All these options are complemented by enabled icon tools. If you've used Photoshop in the past, it will look very familiar.

Perhaps to differentiate itself from Photoshop, Pixelmator default black background behind the canvas and windows. We were able to change the background of the canvas gray or white by right-clicking on it, but we were not able to change the color of the tool window. We are pumping up the brightness of our MacBook Pro in order to clearly see the icons in the toolbar. On the plus side, these icons are clear labels that appear when you hover over them and tool now seems more than others.

Pixelmator makes extensive use of layers, and unlike SketchBook Express, there is no limitation on the number of layers, you can create. However, you cannot cut, copy or drag layer from one image to another as in Photoshop. Instead, we would have to drag the icon for a layer in the layers of the desired image.

When the time comes, to save your work, Pixelmator creates its own proprietary file pxm. There is also a possibility of saving in Photoshop format (PSD), JPEG, PDF, PNG, or TIFF. To create a small web-based images, the program also has the option to export for Web. If you use Photoshop and Pixelmator home, you want to save your layered Photoshop files. Pixelmator would open Photoshop files, but Photoshop does not return the favor.

For amateur photographers and creators of the Internet meme Pixelmator is an excellent alternative to more expensive software, photo editing. It has the same opportunities for casual users who want to, but ignores the high price and sometimes confusing tools. Although Photoshop color scheme is more aesthetically pleasing, Pixelmator Gets the job done.
